Your past customers are the best marketing channel you already own
Ask most contractors where their next job is coming from and they will point at a lead platform, a stack of door hangers, or an ad they are not sure is working. Almost nobody points at the list of people they have already served. That list is the most valuable marketing asset in the business, and it is the one that gets ignored.
The math nobody runs
A new lead from a platform is a stranger. You are paying to introduce yourself, prove you are trustworthy, and win a job, all at once, against three other contractors bidding the same lead. It is expensive, and it is getting more expensive every year.
A past customer is the opposite. They already let you into their home. They already saw your work. They already trust you enough to pay you once. Reaching them again costs almost nothing, and the trust is already built. The only reason they call someone else next time is that they forgot you were an option.
Why they forget
It is not personal. Home services are infrequent. A homeowner might need an electrician every few years, a plumber when something breaks, a landscaper when they finally tackle the backyard. The gap between jobs is long enough to lose a phone number and forget a name. So when the need finally shows up, they do what everyone does. They Google it, and they call whoever shows up first.
Staying in front of them, even a little, is the whole game. If you are the name they already know when the need appears, you win before the search even starts.
What staying in front actually looks like
It does not mean spamming a coupon every week. It means showing up in the inbox with something that feels like it was written for them: a note that references the work you did, a tip that fits their season, a reason to think of you before the competitor’s postcard lands.
Done right, it reads as service, not marketing. And because these are people who already trust you, it works far better than anything you could send a stranger. This is the entire idea behind the Stewardship Program: one honest email a month to the customers you already earned.
Start where the risk is lowest
You do not have to take my word for it. The $599 trial runs the whole process once, on your real list, so you can see exactly who books before you commit to anything. If your list is warm, you will know. If it is cold, you will have learned that cheaply.
Either way, the point stands. The customers you already earned are worth more than any list a platform can rent you. Treat them that way.
